§190.291 Criminal penalties generally.

Can a person be criminally liable and go to jail for not following the pipeline safety regulations?

Yes!  Just read §190.291.  In part paragraph (a) states:

(a) Any person who willfully and knowingly violates a provision of 49 U.S.C. 60101 et seq. or any regulation or order issued thereunder will upon conviction be subject to a fine under title 18, United States Code, and imprisonment for not more than five years, or both, for each offense.

There have been several cases prosecuted over the years under this rule.  And yet again another example is in the news.  While we can’t reprint the article here you can view it online at:
